Obama as a successful man

#The10YearsChallenge…

is currently the rave of the city and the entire online universe right now. Everyone is putting up grass-to-sunshine pictures of themselves from ten years back, to show how much they’ve grown and how much they’ve succeeded in life. After all success is the best revenge, or isn’t it? #The10YearsChallenge is one way in which many millennials define success, but how should you define your own success?

Millennials (youths nearing adulthood in the early 21st century) have a high tendency to join certain bandwagons or groups to partake in certain cultures and believe in a common ideology. To many young people, chains, loads of money, fame, women, jewelries, new trendy clothes and lots more can be equated to success. But the question is how do you personally want to define your own success? Because success doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. To define your own success,

  • You need to have a strong sense of self and personal identity
  • You have to know your worth, your purpose, what drives you and what you’re deeply inspired by
  • You need to understand what is important to you and why it is important to you
  • You also should know what you want out of life and where you want to be in the next 5-10 years

Exploring these above notions and knowing their answers can help in answering the question, what is the meaning of success? Then depending on your answers, you can choose what you want to work hard on, trade off, focus on and accomplish.

How to be successful in life

In an article published by Business Insider

  • Successful people don’t necessarily consider themselves to be super successful because they’re rich or powerful.
  • They don’t focus on speaking about bling blings or about other people, they often talk about relationships, wellbeing and societal impact.

So dear millennial writer, creative, activist or social humanitarian. There’s a lot you can be and there are a lot of definitions of success out there, but what’s most important is that you look within, and define what success means to you.
