YOU, YES YOU!!!

YOU, YES YOU!!!

You are the master of your boat and the captain of your ship

Growing up I had all the experiences to live like everyone else. Go to school, get a decent paying job with job security, marry and live a good life. Well that is tempting right? If you live in a society where majority of people are inclined to this thinking it’s difficult to bow out.

But I knew I had something more to give to society. The desire was burning deep inside me. I knew I had a lot to give and that thought kept me at night from sleeping. Yes I can easily live a life meant to benefit myself and my family at most. I can channel my thoughts to the way majority of people think and live the way everyone does. I can easily follow the crowd. But is it worth it? Will that make me fulfilled? Is that my purpose on earth? I decided, yes I decided that I will live the life I wanted. Not what society wanted and expected me to but what I wanted. And I have never regretted my decision. When you do what makes you happy, there is always this sense of satisfaction. Do what makes you happy and set your soul on fire. Find your purpose and fulfil it. But most importantly, let whatever you do benefit your society. Live a life of impact.

Many of us are being led astray by family, friends, religion, society and everything else around us. We let every other person decide what is best for us but ourselves. Many of us are boxed into a system that has majority of the population believing that they are whoever you say they are. We live and breathe based on what people say and on people’s validation. We are afraid to get out of our comfort zone and explore because we are afraid of failure and mockery. We change who we are because we are insecure. But do you know who created those insecurities? Society, not you. You are not ugly, you are not fat, you are not short, you are not dumb, your black skin is beautiful, your kinky afro is sexy and you are not inadequate. Or maybe you are. But who cares? As long as you are enough for yourself. But you know what, you are the only one who has the right to laugh at yourself, to encourage yourself and decide for yourself. It’s you and no one else.

What is your purpose on earth. Do you know it? Are you on the path to find it? Or you just don’t care, you are okay living like everyone else. Are you afraid of change? Of being uncomfortable? Of starting small, of independence? Of society? We were all given a life to live. That is the beauty of life. Everyone has a journey and our routes are different. We will all not get there at the same pace or same time. So never follow anyone’s ideas about life. Learn from others but do not live like others. Because you are special, you are unique and you are different. So discover, live, struggle, fight, fail, fall down, and get up, experiment and live life to your full capacity. Because one day, just one day, you will look back and cry. And those tears will be tears of happiness or of sorrow. But you know what, you will decide what those tears stand for.

Self-empowerment, mental liberation? Inner peace, positive self image all starts with you. Don’t let your environment or society define you. You are the one who decides who you become. YOU, YES YOU!!!
