As a child, I never really liked prince charming and his perfect love stories, they always seemed sort of flimsy and too easy for me. The perfect prince meets the perfect damsel and she falls for him immediately. He then saves her from distress and they live happily ever after. Stories like that always rubbed little me in the wrong way and made me want to roll my eyeballs till they fell out.
I preferred stories about the misfits and weirdos, the ugly duckling, puss in boots, hunchback of notre dam; these stories grasped my attention, no matter how many times I’d heard them.

When I became a teenager, I started to understand why I felt that way. The real world is nothing like the perfect princess world, except in terms of distress; even then, the actual distress is a lot more distressing and no prince would sweep in to save you — except he wanted a cookie bite — but even then, he has his own problems to solve and most often, Prince Charming was the princess’ distress.

The perfect love stories never really gave you any tips to deal with life, but the misfit stories gave you lessons/hope about surviving life’s twists and thorns. The ugly duckling forged its own path, learned to love itself and grew into a beautiful swan. Puss in boots used his wit and clever mind to defeat people more than twice his size and the hunchback, though ugly and deformed, through kindness won the cute girl’s love. These stories always implied that no matter your “flaws” and the world’s semi or complete non-acceptance of your person, you could still wade through the waters and come out breathing just fine.

Tyrion Lannister from the Game of Thrones serial said “Know your flaws, wear them like an armour, and never forget them because the world won’t forget either.”
Your supposed flaws are what make you unique, shredding them only makes you another wannabe, be proud of your imperfections and watch the world bow to you.

Thank you seph jae… I think I liked the perfect princesses and prince tales while growing up… coz actually.. they weren’t always so perfect.. they had to fight their way to freedom and being together. Take rapunzel..cinderella..snow white…for instance. They all had problems..living with a step mum, locked in a tower, unconscious for a time.. this still shows that life ain’t rosy..
But..i also related well with all the other tales… shrek..ugly duckling..etc.
But thanks alot..id start to look at things differently now.
Thumps up woman!
