Poetry

Tonight, I want to write me some poetry.
Not about balloons and icecream
Or battered hearts that have grown resistant to pain,
Or the characters I met that would make a good story…
Or boys and the one that got stuck in my head. No.

This is “my” poetry.

I have been trying too hard to explain
That I am all of this and none of that
That it’s not what you think and you only need to do is keep an open mind. I really tried…

But I ran out of breath,
From making the announcements and running uphill simultaneously.
From keeping my eyes open and watching, waiting, anticipating the next not-so-right opinion about me.

This is “my” poetry

I am Victory; sunshine on a rainy day, chilled coke on a sunny day.

I am tenderness and ‘hiccupy laughters’ in public places about things you would not have noticed.

I am so beautiful, God had to take a selfie after He was done making me.

So, yea… in other words, I am done
With half-hearted conversations and forced relationships,
With friendships that feel like walls and eyes too eager to impress.

I have a lover like no other who mesmerizes and totally adores me.
God loves me…
And “everyday”.
This is more than enough.

I am a graduate of Accounting from KNUST, Ghana.
I find pleasure in taking a look at the “mini-dramas” that happen in our lives. Like the man that stops at the bar at exactly 7:00 am every day before heading to work, I think he’s pregnant, and the guy that everyone says is mad just because he talks to himself, pacing back and forth the streets. Aha… there’s also that girl that hawks food and deliberately slows down her pace when she gets to the front of the barber’s shop. She likes him.
I’m just here… they don’t know I know them but I see them and smile from the window in my bathroom.
