THE STREETS OF LAGOS BY NDIFREKE GEORGE

THE STREETS OF LAGOS BY NDIFREKE GEORGE
April 23, 2017
Poetry

Life and death scream

on the highest octave of their voices

A myriad of yellow and black colours

painted on every corner

Sincere smiles and real pain ̶

good friends from old times

Walk in pari passu

in the streets of Lagos
Kisses and bites

fly about in the air

like scalar victims of nature’s blow

Blarring music and loud cry

inspire both lyrics and poems

and feet never stop to trample

along with the strut of tick-tock

on the streets of Lagos
People and things;

events and memories;

dreams and passion;

fiction and reality

roam the rowdy, dusty tracks

like indiscriminate wastes

hurled beside the empty trash cans

to litter the streets of Lagos
